M16 - 240901-7/8
A very rare early Colt XM177 type weapon, with a Colt Firearms registered flash hider. 11.5" barrel, original vinyl covered metal collapsible stock, A-1 upper with tear drop forward assist. BATF required that these factory issued weapons had a flash hider that functioned as a suppressor, thus required registration. Many of these weapons were already in consumer hands and the flash hiders were registered by local class 2 or class 3 license holders. However, some of the owners actually returned the flash hiders to Colt Firearms, to have them registered as suppressors. This seems to be the case here. The suppressor carries its own serial number, ATF569xB, and shows Colt Firearms to be the manufacturer. This weapon is in excellent condition and will make a nice collectors piece. I am in the process of researching the correct model number at this time. I would suspect it to be an original model 640. This weapon has two tax stamps.
